I’m excited to announce I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award, again (see my first nomination)! I nominated Nickkie from Nickkie & Co. and she re-nominated Black Royalty Project! Since I’ve already done my nominations, I am not going to follow the traditional rules. Instead, I am just going to answer the questions she composed for her nominees. I am more than happy to answer her questions because I respect her blog and her passion. I also hope that by sharing my answers, readers can get a better understanding of the purpose and goal of Black Royalty Project.
Nickkie & Co’s questions for her nominees:
1.) Why did you start blogging? What inspired you to want to share your thoughts with other people?
I started blogging for two reasons. Firstly, I wanted to start treating my passion as a business to ultimately be able to replace my current career with this. I want to share and teach for a living and starting my blog was the first step in my overall vision. Secondly, writing is like therapy for me. Putting my thoughts, feelings, and opinions on paper is my ultimate form of expression. I will continue to write, regardless of if I have three readers or three million readers.
2.) If you could go back in time and talk to the kid version of yourself, what advice would you give yourself?
Going back to my younger self, I would tell her to love yourself, don’t sell yourself short or psych yourself out. I would push her to be challenged and to dream bigger. I would also want her to realize that she’s not in this alone and its okay to ask for help, to be emotional, and make mistakes.
3.) If there was one thing you could sacrifice to speak to someone who has since passed on, what would you sacrifice, who would you talk to and what would you talk to them about?
There are many people I would love to speak to that have since passed on, however I can’t think of anything that I could truly sacrifice in order to do so. If we’re talking giving up coffee for a week to talk to Dr. Martin Luther King- I could do that. I would be willing to sacrifice material things or trivial moments to speak to someone from my family history. But would I sacrifice a big opportunity for my career? Would I sacrifice my marriage? Would I sacrifice my life? Not really.
If I could speak to my great-great-grandmother, I would want to talk about her pain, her dreams, her goals, and her fears. I would want to soak up any and every word she shared as an opportunity to know where I came from and to share her wisdom.
4.) If there is anything in the world you could change what would it be?
The controlling side of me would want to change all injustice and division among people. But I must say, my beliefs contradict that because I know everything happens for a reason. I cannot “play God” and instantly change things that I don’t like about people. Everything that happens in the world- good, bad, or indifferent- is done according to His will. I am certainly not going to interfere with that. Now I can say, I do want to provoke, inspire, and influence change for the better, but again, I cannot be hung up on the fact that some things just won’t change. It is not in my power, nor do I want it to be.
6.) If you were a superhero what would be your superpower and why?
My superpower would be teleportation/time travel. It would be really interesting to be able to jump to different periods of time at any time. I would be able to learn so much and gain a broad perspective of life. I would discover so many things I otherwise would be ignorant to.
